Starlight Blue Mica, glistening in the sunset.

I hadn't been to a drive-in in years; not since I've had a license (almost 10 years). I may be mistaken about that, but I do know I've never driven my own car to a drive in before and there's something special that I didn't notice before in other people's cars. A bit of nostalgia—yes, but there's something else too.

It's something I'm not sure I can explain in words. A connection with my car, that I hadn't felt before, while working on her, driving her, or even washing her. Sharing a moment; almost like taking a lady friend out to that secret spot for some alone time. Alright, no...that's probably taking it a bit far. The point is; taking a car I put time and care into escalated the nostalgia to a new level.

This brings me to the eye sore that is an overwhelming presence of today's uninspired "modern" cars. Designed by safety regulations, each one of them brings the nostalgia level down little by little. You see, I view the drive-in as a time capsule; in which I can experience something that has been around since the early 1930s! So when I see a mid 2000s lampshade grey Chevy Malibu pull up...I can't help but think: thanks . Thanks for reminding me how 'they don't make 'em like they used to' and ruining this timeless experience that is the drive-in for everyone .

Pickup trucks are pretty great for the drivein because you can put a couch in the bed and park backwards, but they have to park in the back. The best in my opinion is a speedster, lowdown parked in the front with no windshield or a pillars to block your view.

I guess I'll have to buy one of ^those^ then lol. When I was growing up, my dad had a maroon 70s or 80s station wagon with the rear facing bench seat in the back...that was pretty awesome for the drive-in for sure. I can't remember what make or year specifically though...I'll have to ask him sometime
